Quick Guide: Windows® Update

Windows Update is a feature supplied with the Windows operating system that performs the automatic download and installation of upgrades and fixes to the Windows software.

It is essential that you perform regular updates to Windows to further increase its security and stability. Windows, being the most used set of operating systems throughout the world, can be highly prone to attacks from virus authors and hackers.

Your Windows computer can be set to automatically carry out Windows Updates, as described below:

  • From the start menu, select the control panel
  • In the control panel, make sure you are inside the 'classic view' (you should see 'automatic updates')
  • Open 'automatic updates'
  • You will be prompted to select from a list of download schedules, select the most appropriate to your needs
  • Click 'ok' - that's it; your computer will now be kept up-to-date on the schedule you have specified
  • For enhanced security you should perform the above steps for automatic updates, install a firewall, and regularly run good up-to-date antivirus software.

    Update Windows now.
